Processing is an open source programming language and environment for people who want to program images, animation, and interactions. It is used by students, artists, designers, researchers, and hobbyists for learning, prototyping, and production. It is created to teach fundamentals of computer programming within a visual context and to serve as a software sketchbook and professional production tool. Processing is developed by artists and designers as an alternative to proprietary software tools in the same domain.
Premasagar and Madhava led this interactive workshop - an exploration into the conflict and harmony of commercial success with an ethical approach.
This is the perennial question for our own startup web development company, Dharmafly, and instead of telling anything, we wanted to get the answers from the crowd...
We split people into groups and got them mind-mapping. Each group had a sheet with 'How to Save the World' written in the centre and another sheet with 'How to Succeed in Business'. In limited time, they wrote related concepts and connected them together...
There often seems to be a conflict between running a thriving business and working in an ethical way. Much of our society is cut-throat and ruthlessly capitalistic. But we found that many practices support and complement both needs. There is a common desire for collaboration, integrity and taking an ethical approach.
The future looks bright...

BT understands that innovation is happening in the open source community and wants to learn more. They're hired Jeremy Ruston, the creator of TiddlyWiki, who has now formed a team around him called Osmosoft. Jeremy and Osmosoft now advocate the use of open source in BT, and try to ensure that everyone involves understands how to behave in an open source project.
In some instances, where BT has specific requirements from open source software, a bounty may be put up for the open source programmer who can help meet those needs. Open source meets $$$.

In this talk I tried to introduce everyone to QR codes and show how they could be read by camera phones. I also created a wallchart full of them, which allowed people to play Hunt the Wumpus simply by scanning QR codes in each room.
The point of that demo was to demonstrate that things become a lot more interesting when you have a dynamic web app behind the URLs you embed in your QR codes. This is because a) the same token can provide different results (cos the web app maintains the state) and b) you get added bonuses like interaction or data aggregation, because the whole thing gets logged in a database.
More details about it all on the site I set up at www.QRtists.com, or simply view the slideshow:
